Biography
Jeremy is a chartered engineer with over 25 years experience in the gas industry. He joined the industry as a Graduate Trainee.
His work experience includes 10 years in the construction, commissioning and operation of Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) plants within the UK. In 1986 he was seconded to Tokyo Gas Company for 14 months and worked predominantly in their LNG Production Division.
He has also spent significant time in the Gas Distribution and Gas Transmission business within British Gas.
Jeremy was appointed to the Head of National Transmission System (NTS) in 2000 and then became the Network Director for South of England in 2002.
He is now the Director of Network Strategy, Gas Distribution, National Grid. His responsibilities include technical policy development, investment and information management, Network Planning and the operation of the Distribution Control Centres.
Jeremy is currently Chairman of the Distribution Committee of the International Gas Union and President elect of the Institution of Gas Engineers and Managers (IGEM).

Chris is also the Single Responsible Officer (SRO) for the combined Cambridgeshire CC and Northamptonshire CC Street Lighting PFI project with a combined contract value of in excess of £600 million, presently going through procurement.
Chris is a member of the UK Roads Board and Chair of the Pavement Condition Group (PCMG). He is also a member of the CSS Highways Managers Group and the CSS Asset Management Group.

Biography
A science graduate, Robert joined Wood Mackenzie & Co as an investment analyst in April 1977. During the 1980s he was involved in a series of UK privatisations (e.g. Jaguar, and British Airways) and IPOs. Robert covered the UK water companies from their 1989 privatisation, and their waste counterparts from 1990. He has a broad knowledge of European water and waste companies, particularly the French, and has also written extensively about infrastructure.
He joined Merrill Lynch in March 1998 after nearly 21 years at Wood Mackenzie and successor firms (eg NatWest Markets). His equity coverage extended across water & waste management companies, including continental European stocks. Retired from Merrill Lynch in July 2008, but continues to act as a consultant to the Bank of America Securities – Merrill Lynch EMEA Utilities team whilst pursuing other projects including writing.
His other interests include politics (though on extended sabbatical since June 2000) and horse racing (with horses in both UK and Eire), Robert lives near Melrose in the Scottish Borders.

Graeme Thompson is the Finance and Regulation Director for Central Networks.
Central Networks distributes electricity to homes and businesses in central England, serving 4.9 million customers and employing around 3500 people. Central Networks is part of E.ON, the world’s largest investor-owned power and gas company.
Graeme trained as a Chartered Accountant at Coopers & Lybrand in Birmingham before joining Powergen in 1996. He worked in various finance roles within Powergen’s generation business before moving into the central M&A team, taking a key role in the acquisitions of LG&E in the US and TXU and Midlands Electricity in the UK. Following the E.ON acquisition of Powergen, in 2003 he was appointed Director, Controlling and Accounting within E.ON UK and since 2006 has been leading the strategy, regulation and finance team within Central Networks. Graeme lives in Warwickshire, is married and with no children enjoys travelling and the other freedoms this brings.

Martin Gwyther heads up the Business Development function of AVEVA’s lifecycle solutions business within the EMEA region. This group works closely with AVEVA’s solution delivery teams to understand customers' lifecycle data management needs and to use this knowledge to devise individual solution delivery programmes and feed into AVEVA's ongoing technology development plans.
Before joining AVEVA, Martin spent several years working for AkerKvaerner, where he held various management roles. Whilst with AkerKvaerner, he led the development of key lifecycle information management systems which were acquired and commercialised by AVEVA. Since joining AVEVA, he has held various senior management roles, including Vice President of Business Consulting and Head of Plant Engineering.
Martin holds a B.Sc. (Hons) in Chemical and Process Engineering, is a Chartered Engineer and is a Member of the Institution of Chemical Engineers (MIChemE).

Donald is Head of Asset Management, Finance and Technical Branch of the Trunk Road Network Management Directorate in Transport Scotland, a post which he has held since November 2007. Transport Scotland is the Government’s National Transport Agency established in January 2006 responsible for the rail and trunk road networks in Scotland and the national concessionary travel schemes.
Donald is responsible for Trunk Roads asset management planning and systems development and financial planning and budgetary control of the trunk road maintenance budgets. In addition, Donald is responsible for the management of the Performance Audit Group Commission, business planning and is Health and Safety Coordinator for the agency.
Donald is a Chartered Engineer with over 20 years experience in the design, construction and operation of roads having graduated from Strathclyde University in 1987.

Biography
Bill joined the utility industry in 1977 as a craft apprentice with South of Scotland Electricity Board (later to become ScottishPower). Other roles with ScottishPower included electrical fitter, project engineer and engineering team leader before taking up his first managerial appointment as Resources Manager for Glasgow District.
Bill progressed to Distribution Operations Manager and then General Manager for Clyde Region with responsibility for construction, operation and maintenance of the Region’s distribution network supplying 900,000 customers.
In November 1999 Bill was appointed as General Manager for ScottishPower’s UK wide New Connections Business and was responsible for establishing this new business unit which ultimately led to the launch of the JV company Core Utility Solutions between ScottishPower and Alfred McAlpine in early 2002. Bill led this new business as MD from 2002 to 2005.
Bill is now Chief Executive Officer for the group of independent utility businesses under Energetics Networked Energy. The principal activities of this business are the design, build, ownership and operation of the electricity and gas networks required for new developments.
Bill has an MSc in Electrical Power Engineering from Strathclyde University, a BSc in Electrical & Electronic Engineering from Glasgow Caledonian University and is a Fellow of the Institution of Engineering & Technology (FIET).

Jerry is a Chartered Chemical Engineer, and has worked across the infrastructure sector in various capacities for nearly 30 years.
He joined Network Rail in October 2007 as Director, Civil Engineering and was promoted to Director, Engineering in February 2009.
Prior to joining Network Rail he was Interim Major Projects Director with the Highways Agency, where he was accountable for the delivery of all major road schemes in England.
Before joining the Highways Agency Jerry was Chief Operating Officer for Thames Water Utilities, responsible for the provision of water and wastewater services to over 13 million customers in London and the Thames Valley. He had Board accountability for all aspects of operational performance and customer service, over £1.4bn of revenue, around £500m pa of operational expenditure, and more than £600m pa of capital expenditure.
Prior to joining Thames Water Jerry spent 20 years in the oil and gas industry, project managing the design and construction of oil refineries, gas processing plants, and petrochemical plants for many of the major oil companies. Jerry has worked in the USA, North Africa, the Middle East, and the Indian sub-continent, as well as in the UK and Europe.

Dr David Stainforth is a Senior Research Fellow in the Grantham Research Institute. He is a physicist by training and has many years experience of climate modelling. While a researcher at Oxford University he co-founded and was chief scientist of the climateprediction.net project, the world's largest climate modelling experiment. He has been both a NERC Research Fellow and a Tyndall Research Fellow at Oxford University. His current research interests focus on how we can extract robust and useful information about future climate, and climate related phenomena, from modelling experiments. This includes issues of how to design climate modelling experiments and how to link climate science to real-world decision making in such a way as to be of value to industry, policy makers and wider society.

Scott Tompkins is the Asset Manager for Gloucestershire Highways, a ground breaking partnership between Gloucestershire County Council and Atkins. At the formation of the Gloucestershire Highways partnership in 2005, GCC set about putting asset management at the forefront of its strategy by centralizing all of the data gathering as well as capital programme decision making into one highways asset team.
Scott joined GCC in 2001 working in Transport Planning and Data Management before taking over as the leader of the Asset Management Team. Following the severe flooding in Gloucestershire in 2007 Scott led the team in assembling the very successful bid for DfT funding to repair some £16.5m of flood damaged roads. Flood recovery has been an ongoing theme in Gloucestershire and the team has been at the heart of delivering some £5m of highway drainage improvement schemes in 2008/09 and a successful Element II bid around mapping drainage assets.

Gareth is Head of Profession – Engineering and Technical Adviser to the Distribution Directorate at Ofgem, the gas and electricity regulator for Great Britain. He provides a focal point for Ofgem’s engineers and has responsibility for providing technical advice to the Distribution Directorate and more widely across Ofgem.
Gareth joined Ofgem in 2002. He has over 30 years experience in the UK electricity supply industry. During his career he has worked in transmission, distribution, generation and the development of electricity storage. Gareth was a member of the management team that launched National Power’s successful cogeneration business and during this period worked closely with the CHPA to help promote cogeneration and address market barriers. Gareth’s role at Ofgem is focussed on the challenges of developing distribution networks. He was responsible for the development of the Innovation Funding Incentive and the Registered Power Zone schemes. He has also played an active role in the European SmartGrids Technology Platform and is now focusing on the regulatory challenges of smart grids. He is a Chartered Engineer and a member of the IET. He is chair of the IET’s Environment & Energy Expert Group and sits on the Energy Sector Panel.

Biography
Scott Tompkins is the Asset Manager for Gloucestershire Highways, a ground breaking partnership between Gloucestershire County Council and Atkins. At the formation of the Gloucestershire Highways partnership in 2005, GCC set about putting asset management at the forefront of its strategy by centralizing all of the data gathering as well as capital programme decision making into one highways asset team.
Scott joined GCC in 2001 working in Transport Planning and Data Management before taking over as the leader of the Asset Management Team. Following the severe flooding in Gloucestershire in 2007 Scott led the team in assembling the very successful bid for DfT funding to repair some £16.5m of flood damaged roads. Flood recovery has been an ongoing theme in Gloucestershire and the team has been at the heart of delivering some £5m of highway drainage improvement schemes in 2008/09 and a successful Element II bid around mapping drainage assets.

Biography
Gareth is Head of Profession – Engineering and Technical Adviser to the Distribution Directorate at Ofgem, the gas and electricity regulator for Great Britain. He provides a focal point for Ofgem’s engineers and has responsibility for providing technical advice to the Distribution Directorate and more widely across Ofgem.
Gareth joined Ofgem in 2002. He has over 30 years experience in the UK electricity supply industry. During his career he has worked in transmission, distribution, generation and the development of electricity storage. Gareth was a member of the management team that launched National Power’s successful cogeneration business and during this period worked closely with the CHPA to help promote cogeneration and address market barriers. Gareth’s role at Ofgem is focussed on the challenges of developing distribution networks. He was responsible for the development of the Innovation Funding Incentive and the Registered Power Zone schemes. He has also played an active role in the European SmartGrids Technology Platform and is now focusing on the regulatory challenges of smart grids. He is a Chartered Engineer and a member of the IET. He is chair of the IET’s Environment & Energy Expert Group and sits on the Energy Sector Panel.

Biography
On qualifying from Cambridge University as a Chemist, Clive moved into the Investment Banking Industry where he invested into a variety of engineering businesses.
On joining the Utility sector he has held a number of line management roles for a range of waste management, water, wastewater and electricity infrastructure businesses. The Condition Based Reliability Maintenance regime he introduced over a five year period into an Electricity Utility won the 2007 Innovation Award for Asset Management. More recently the PIONEER risk based investment planning system was considered best in class in the British Water and Wastewater Sector.
Clive is currently writing a book on Global Asset Management and the role of utility organisational design and leadership. Forty utilities who manage over £600 billion of infrastructure assets are participating in this project. Clive is also the Chairman of the Investment Committee for a Research and Development fund.
