Biography
Petter Allison is Director Smart Metering, leading the transformation programme to deliver smart metering across British Gas’ 16m energy customer accounts. This includes business design, technology and systems, process change, customer operations, and economics. Petter has held a range of roles in Centrica, including heading Metering & Payments, Head of Commercial in both Residential Energy and Home Services, Corporate Strategy & Development, M&A, telecoms and broadband development, and Commercial Director for BG Deutschland. Petter started his career as a project economist working in Africa and Asia for multilateral finance institutions.

Biography
James has spent over 17 years working in the utility industry across Europe, UK, North America and Asia-Pacific, and has a wide range of experience in the electricity and gas sectors. He has helped businesses transform themselves to take advantage of the reform of gas and electricity markets, with a special emphasis on the introduction of wholesale market changes and of smart metering . Other specialist areas include the structure, design and implementation of wholesale markets in competitive electricity and gas sectors, and of energy trading processes and systems. James has led a number of major software and infrastructure implementations.

Steve Daniels FMS, FIOR, FBCS, CITP
Steve Daniels is the Head of Cyber Security & Information Assurance at Detica Limited, part of BAE Systems, where he leads a team of more than 100 professionals. Steve’s career spans some 25 years in this discipline, with a focus upon information risk management and assignments undertaken for organisations in the public sector and within the Critical National Infrastructure. He has had a close engagement with the Centre for the Protection of National Infrastructure (CPNI) and other parts of the UK Government security community, especially the National Technical Authority for IA (CESG), for many years. Steve has a special interest in the cyber security issues surrounding Smart Metering and how to achieve ‘security by design’, and has consulted widely on this topic across Government and industry. He has jointly authored a White Paper on this topic, a synopsis of which represents his presentation at this conference.

Biography
Charles Hendry has been Member of Parliament for Wealden since 2001. He is currently Shadow Minister for Energy. Before this, Charles was Shadow Minister for Energy, Industry and Postal Affairs in the Business and Enterprise team and Energy Science and Technology in the former DTI team. Charles was the Deputy Chairman of the Conservative Party (2003-05) and Shadow Minister for Young People (2002-05) and Shadow Minister for Industry and Enterprise (May – December 2005).
From 1992-97, Charles was Member of Parliament for High Peak, Vice-Chairman of the Conservative Party (1995-1997) and Chairman of the All-Party Parliamentary Group on Homelessness (1992-1996). Following the 1997 General Election, Charles was appointed Chief of Staff to the Rt Hon William Hague during his leadership of the Conservative Party, before establishing and leading the Business Liaison Unit at Conservative Party headquarters.
Charles’ business career has mostly been spent in Public Relations, working with the international communications groups Ogilvy & Mather PR and Burson-Marsteller. He was Special Adviser to the Rt Hon John Moore MP as Secretary of State for Social Services (1988) and to the Rt Hon Tony Newton MP as Minister of State for Trade & Industry and then Secretary of State for Social Security (1988-90). He was Founder/Chairman/Chief Executive of The Agenda Group (1999-2005), a specialist consultancy helping company Chairmen and Chief Executives with their corporate networking.
