Biography
Nick Clegg is MP for Sheffield Hallam and Leader of the Liberal Democrats. He studied at Cambridge, Minnesota and College D’Europe before training as a journalist. Clegg then worked as a development and trade expert in the EU, sat as an MEP (1999-2004), lectured at Sheffield and Cambridge universities, and was elected as an MP in 2005. In Parliament Clegg was quickly appointed Europe spokesperson and later Shadow Home Secretary, a role in which he spearheaded the Liberal Democrats’ defence of civil liberties and promoted a new approach to cutting crime. He was elected Leader in December 2007 and has pledged to double the party’s number of MPs within two elections. Clegg is married with three young children.

Biography
Jane was appointed Chief Executive of NS&I in September 2006. Trained as an investment manager, she spent the first part of her career managing pension funds with Mercury Asset Management before moving to BZW where she held a number of senior management positions in their asset management division to become Chief Operating Officer at the time of the creation of Barclays Global Investors.
She then became Chairman and Chief Executive of Barclays Stockbrokers and Barclays Bank Trust Company before moving to Reuters as President of their newly created global division, Services for Asset Managers.
Jane has acted as a plc non executive director and pension fund trustee. Currently she is Chair of ACE, the association of agency and NDPB chief executives, and a member of the HMRC capability review team.

Biography
Deanna became Chief Executive of the UK Retail Bank in December 2005, taking the helm at one of the largest retail banks in the UK, with nearly 30,000 employees, serving some 15 million customers through contact centres, online banking and more than 1,700 branches.
In addition to her role as Chief Executive of the UK Retail Bank, in November 2009, Deanna became Vice-Chair of Global Retail Banking (GRB). Working with GRB Chief Executive, Antony Jenkins, Deanna’s remit as Vice-Chair is to help drive global excellence across GRB’s markets and to develop strategies for success.
From 1985 to 2005, Deanna held several senior management positions at Washington Mutual.
In September 2007, Deanna was named Britain’s Business Communicator of the Year by the British Association of Communicators in Business (CiB) and in October 2009, was chosen by U.S. Banker magazine as one of the top 25 Most Powerful Women in Banking.
Deanna serves as Chair of the Board of Trustees of the University of Puget Sound in Tacoma, Washington USA and is also a charter member of the Advisory Council for Amara, an organisation that partners with birth, foster, and adoptive parents to create and support stable, loving homes for vulnerable children.

Biography
Alan Cook took up the role of Managing Director of Post Office Ltd in March 2006 with the brief to re-vitalise the business and return it to profitability by 2011.
Alan, 56, joined Post Office Ltd from National Savings and Investments where he was Chief Executive. Prior to that time, he was at Prudential Assurance Company where he was Chief Operating Officer for UK and Europe.
Alan is a Non Executive Director of the Financial Ombudsman Service and has recently been appointed as a Non Executive Director of The Department for Transport. Until recently, he was a Member of Council at the Institute of Financial Services and previously was Vice Chairman of the Board of the University of Bedfordshire.
He is a Fellow of the Chartered Insurance Institute, a Fellow of the Chartered Management Institute and a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts. In 2004 he was granted the Freedom of the City of London and is a member of the Worshipful Company of Insurers. He was awarded a CBE in the 2006 New Year’s Honours List.
