Thank you for attending the IEA & Marketforce's 12th Annual The Future of Life Assurance conference, and its pre-conference Flexible Retirement Solutions day. Over the course of the three days, 42 speakers shared their insight into the future direction of the industry and the challenges going forwards.
Several key themes emerged from the debate, with the importance of financial education, creating a strong brand that resonates with the consumer and adapting communications to suit customer needs coming to the forefront. The final day examined the outcomes of the RDR and its impact on the industry; questions were raised about the potential for direct distribution, and opinions differed as to whether the RDR went far enough in reforming the sales/advice model.
The inaugural Flexible Retirement Solutions day provided fascinating insight into the post-retirement marketplace. Representatives from the two main political parties shared their vision of future pension provisions, and there was much discussion of how life companies could take advantage of this growing sector.
Despite the gloomy financial backdrop, the speakers and audience at The Future of Life Assurance generally offered an optimistic view of the life industry, with many speakers praising the sector for its strong capital reserves and relatively steady financial position, whilst acknowledging that much needed to be done to adapt to future challenges.
