Despite the lack of an announcement from DECC the 3rd annual Metering Forum served as an important venue to re-clarify the energy industry's commitment to domestic smart metering and discuss how it may overcome the variety of financial and operational challenges it will face over the next decade of implementation. Speakers throughout the day confirmed their eagerness and enthusiasm to move the process forward as quickly, sustainably and fairly as possible and were equally critical of the lack of regulatory or political vision or urgency in delivering a market model.
Experiences from the water sector and from abroad both offered equally insightful views on a number of issues and helped to provide a valued external perspective on the UK energy smart metering market. Whilst next year's event will almost certainly provide yet further food for debate, this year's conference still provided critical high level discussion around this tremendously important subject.
