Nuclear Issues Group

Overview

Introducing the Nuclear Issues Group:

The Nuclear Issues Group is a small group of select senior executives from across the nuclear industry. The group meets quarterly to discuss and analyse key policy, economic and regulatory developments and their implications across the sector. At each meeting members are addressed by high-profile guest speakers from the nuclear industry as well as related government and regulatory bodies and commentators.

Speakers generally address the group for 30 minutes followed by 30 minutes of discussion under the Chatham House Rule. This provides an excellent opportunity for members to gain a strong feel for the policy, regulatory and economic climate and use this as a basis for business decisions.

Members of the group, past and present, include representatives from:

Aker Kvaerner UK, AMEC Group, Arup, Atkins, British Nuclear Fuels, British Nuclear Group, British Energy, CH2M Hill, the Environment Agency, Foster Wheeler Energy, Haliburton Company, the Ministry of Defence, Nukem, Rolls Royce, Shaw Group, UKAEA, Westinghouse

To preserve the select nature of the group, membership is by invitation only.

In 2008, the Nuclear Issues Group will focus on the following issues critical to the nuclear industry:

  • How will continuing developments in government policy impact on the nuclear industry?
  • How are regulatory bodies continuing to respond to market developments?
  • Assessing the progress of the Generic Design Acceptance process
  • Developments in the decommissioning market: progress on the Sellafield PBO process
  • Waste disposal: moving towards the implementation of a waste siting process
  • The financing perspective: how does nuclear build compare to other energy projects?
  • An in-depth exploration of opposition to nuclear power
  • Exploring developments in nuclear markets worldwide
